Project starts with a literature review of the green structure planning and design in key European cities in order to learn from their approaches. A comparative assessment takes place, identifying the most relevant variables already studied, problems and solutions. This overview will help to devise which parameters shall be taken in consideration and its direct or indirect effects towards biodiversity.
Comparative analysis of green structure planning and design in major European cities. Data will be obtained from available geographical information systems, publications, reports, and information exchanged with local universities and governments. The main goal is to sense how biodiversity is being approached in the planning of the urban green structure at the European level. This overview will help to devise which parameters shall be taken in consideration and its direct or indirect effects towards biodiversity, particularly those related with public space. (ie human density, size and shape of green areas, distances, relation to the surrounding landscape, etc.).
